Dr. J. Duncan Crerar

Scientist, author, teacher, Christian steward, husband, father, and grandfather.

A life converging in one place

Dr. J. Duncan Crerar’s work has crossed computational physics, directed energy and pulsed-power systems, engineering, software, government service, education, entrepreneurship, ministry, and writing. Portal Grove gathers those different disciplines into a single long work of stewardship.

He describes himself not as the Grove’s owner in any final sense, but as its first steward and Grove Keeper: the person responsible for beginning carefully, recording faithfully, and preparing the work to pass beyond himself.

His Christian faith provides the center. The Grove is being developed in gratitude for God’s blessings and in the conviction that knowledge, land, creativity, and opportunity become meaningful when used in service to others.

Portal Grove is not intended as a monument to its founder. It is intended as an inheritance of responsibility.

Why begin now?

The project brings together a lifetime of scientific inquiry, practical building, care for young people, love of story, and spiritual calling. Its scale requires humility: the First Steward may establish foundations whose fullest expression will belong to people not yet known.

That long horizon is precisely the point. Portal Grove asks what we should begin when we are willing to work for outcomes we may never personally possess.

From founder to future stewards

The proposed Portal Grove Foundation and its future Board of Stewards are intended to separate the enduring mission from the life of any one person. The Grove Keeper’s authority must remain accountable to the land, the founding principles, and the generations asked to continue the work.
